Sheriff Bobby Hammons
Collision Investigation/Reconstruction
The Scott County Sheriffs Office currently has three expertly trained
vehicle collision re-constructionists. This training is a very intensive
for six weeks, the deputies receive the title of re-constructionist
after the completion of the 240+ hours training.

Then each year the deputies get even more advanced specialized
training in other aspects of collision investigations. The deputies are
all veteran law enforcement with years of collision investigations
before attending these classes. This training qualifies the deputies
to make expert witness testimony in a court of law.

The re-constructionist investigate most of the serious injury/ fatal
collisions in Scott County. The re-constructionist has the training
and ability to determine the cause of a collision. They do so by
analyzing the collision scene, talking to witness, vehicle operators
statements, mathematical calculations, tire skid marks, damage to
roadway surfaces and other evidence. The re-construction of a
collision can take many hours even days to complete accurately.
Some math the re-constructionist has to master.
